Van Hire: What You Need to Know Before Collecting Your Van

Van Hire: What You Need to Know Before Collecting Your Van – Hiring a van doesn’t need to be complicated. If you’re booking van hire with us, a bit of preparation can make everything easier — especially on collection day.

Easihire Preston

Here’s a simple checklist so you know exactly what to expect.

Driving Licence: Are You Covered?

Most people can hire a van from us using a standard UK driving licence. As long as you’ve held it for two years and don’t have serious points, you’ll usually be good to go.

You will need a DVLA check code, so it’s worth sorting that before you arrive. Failing that, we can do the check in our branch, as long as you know your National Insurance Number.

How Old Do You Need to Be?

Drivers must be over the age of 25 and driving for more than 2 years on a British / European driving licence. For anyone who doesn’t fit this criteria, please contact the branch directly and we will send your details through to our insurance provider (typically this can take 24hrs to get an answer). There is no maximum age requirement.

Insurance (The Important Bit)

Your van hire includes insurance, but there is an excess. If you’d rather not worry about that, Easihire offers excess reduction cover, which many customers choose for peace of mind — especially if it’s their first time driving a van.

For Small-Medium vans our excess is £1,250. You can reduce your excess to £250 by purchasing our daily excess reduction package for only £20 per day, which is reduced if hiring for longer than 48hrs.

The excess increases to £1,500 if you’re hiring a large or extra large van. You can reduce your excess down to £500 by purchasing our daily excess reduction package at £25 per day.

The excess will be held on a debit or credit card.

What to Bring With You
  • Your driving licence
  • DVLA check code or National Insurance Number
  • 2 x Proof of address
  • Credit / Debit Card for payment and the excess deposit
  • Booking confirmation (If you have it)

Turning up prepared means a faster checkout.
