Winter driving tips for staying safe on the roads

Here at EasiHire Blackburn we are dedicated to our customer’s safety. Below are some winter driving tips whilst driving you’re hire vehicle.

Prepare your hire vehicle for the journey ahead

If you’re on a tight deadline to move home or be somewhere – or even just late to work – it can be tempting just to clear a small gap on your hire vehicle’s windows and leave the rest to melt or fall away as you’re driving. Do not do this, it’s a very easy way to end up involved in an accident.

Take the time to properly clear your windows of all traces of snow, ice and condensation that might have built up. The more time you take to prepare, the better your chances are of avoiding accidents.

Check your Lights

Since there are fewer daylight hours at this time of the year, it will be darker for longer periods. Because of this, you will be using your lights a lot more than usual.

Check that all your lights are working on your hire vehicle, and make sure to use your headlights when your visibility is restricted. It is also handy to check with a friend that brake lights and reverse lights are in working order as well.

Before all vehicle hires at Blackburn our dedicated drivers do check round the vehicle, but bulbs can go at anytime and it is best to check every time you start the engine up.

Carry some essentials

There’s a range of things that you should have at your disposal, especially during winter Journeys, make sure that you own a ice scraper, Jump leads, extra warm clothes, winter footwear, hot drinks and anything else that might be useful during particularly harsh winter conditions. It’s always better to be overprepared rather than underprepared.

Checks before you travel

Consider getting up a little earlier during winter to allow more time for it to heat up and de-ice. Check your fuel level and make sure you have enough to get to your destination. Plan your route and check for road closures and make sure you know have alternative routes. Check the weather to make sure you’re not going to be stranded due to weather.
