Car Hire: What You Need to Know Before Collecting Your Car
Car Hire: What You Need to Know Before Collecting Your Car – Hiring a van doesn’t need to be complicated. If you’re booking van hire in Preston with us, a bit of preparation can make everything easier — especially on collection day.

Here’s a simple checklist so you know exactly what to expect.
Driving Licence: Are You Covered?
Most people can hire a car from us using a standard UK driving licence. As long as you’ve held it for two years and don’t have serious points, you’ll usually be good to go.
You will need a DVLA check code, so it’s worth sorting that before you arrive. Failing that, we can do the check in our branch, as long as you know your National Insurance Number.

How Old Do You Need to Be?
Drivers must be over the age of 25 and driving for more than 2 years on a British / European driving licence. For anyone who doesn’t fit this criteria, please contact the branch directly and we will send your details through to our insurance provider (typically this can take 24hrs to get an answer). There is no maximum age requirement.
Insurance (The Important Bit)
Your van hire includes insurance, but there is an excess. If you’d rather not worry about that, Easihire offers excess reduction cover, which many customers choose for peace of mind — especially if it’s their first time driving a van.
For our cars our excess is £1,250. You can reduce your excess to £250 by purchasing our daily excess reduction package for only £20 per day, which is reduced if hiring for longer than 48hrs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The hire payment and excess MUST be on a credit card in the drivers name.
What to Bring With You
- Your driving licence
- DVLA check code or National Insurance Number
- 2 x Proof of address
- Credit Card for payment and the excess deposit
- Booking confirmation (If you have it)
Turning up prepared means a faster checkout, and will avoid disappointment.
